An unusual roadside resort with an aviation-themed café and relaxed garden setting.

Why Go?

  • Airbus café experience — snack or drink inside a converted aircraft
  • Good restaurant on site
  • Shady garden and relaxation areas
  • Suitable for families or as a stopover

See Stars and Forest Resort is a comfortable resort located on the main road between Udon Thani and Sakon Nakhon. It’s known for its Airbus A300 converted into a large café, where you can enjoy coffee, cakes, and light meals in a uniquely atmospheric space.

Although not set in a true forest, the resort has plenty of shade and landscaped greenery, making it a pleasant spot to relax if you’re travelling through rural Isan.

If you are just visiting the coffee shop it costs 200 Baht to enter, but in return for that you get a coffee and a cake or sushi. Its nicely air conditioned and you can sit in the intact cockpit.

Near the entrance there is a very large indoor restaurant which serves good quality Thai food.

The whole resort has been developed to a very high standard. The rooms and villas look lovely with lots of pools and flowing water.

If you are planning to stay there it’s useful to know that it is located on the edge of a town – not in a forest!

Nearby

Stumbling across this place was a bit of a surprise for me. Its just inside Sakon Nakhon, a province I used to drive through regularly and which was a rural backwater even as the rest of Isan was developing fast. The formerly little town of Sawan Daen Din has grown to become a significant place. Hardly a tourist attraction, but the resort makes it worth a visit.

Nearby you might call in to Prasat Ku Phanna (ปราสาทกู่พันนา), a khmer era ruin that I haven’t seen yet, or the rather bizarre looking Phanna Buri (พันนาบุรี) javan style commercial complex.

Sakon Nakhon province also includes the Phu Pan mountains and national park and the huge Nong Han lake.
