Pha Dong Ko Viewpoint

ผาแดงโกวิวพอยท์
A scenic viewpoint above the rice plains with panoramic views and a relaxed atmosphere.

Why Go?

  • Beautiful views
  • Interesting modern temple buildings
  • Wildlife and butterflie

Pha Dong Ko Viewpoint is one of the best spots near Udon Thani province for wide, uninterrupted panoramic views of the surrounding agricultural landscape. The viewpoint sits above rice fields that stretch to the horizon, especially dramatic in the early morning when fields are mist-lit, or late afternoon as the sun sets.

It’s a peaceful, less-visited spot compared with some of the more crowded attractions, which makes it ideal if you want wide open space and a sense of calm away from town. Photographers will find plenty of sky and land to compose from, and it’s a great place to sit with a drink and take in the light.

The mountain is within the Phu Pha Lek National Park, and you pass the entrance gate on the way up, but I’ve never seen it staffed.

The temple around the summit, which I think is called Wat Tham Apai Damrongtham, is quite large and you sometimes see monks heading between the different parts of the temple on golf buggies! As you drive around you will come across some photogenic modern temple buildings, including one which acts as an observatory.
